The Diocese of Lweru is located in the Northwestern part of Tanzania beside Lake Victoria. The land is well watered, evergreen and very beautiful with a mild temperate climate. The name Lweru is an indigenous name for Lake Victoria. It simply means an expansive mass of water spread over a very large area.
The Diocese covers the government Districts of Bukoba Rural, Bukoba Urban, Missenyi and Muleba in Kagera Region. Muleba, the administrative district of the Diocese is situated 90 km from Bukoba town along the Biharamulo- Mwanza main road.

Agriculture is a primary occupation in Lweru, with many residents engaged in farming and fishing, thanks to its proximity to Lake Victoria. The fertile land supports the cultivation of crops such as bananas, coffee, maize, and beans. Fishing is also a major economic activity, with Lake Victoria providing an abundant source of fish, which is both a food staple and a source of income for the local population.
Education in Lweru is bolstered by institutions such as the Katoke-Lweru Secondary School. Established in 2009, the school offers quality education to students from Forms 1 to 6, with a strong focus on academic excellence and leadership development. It provides comprehensive facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, a library, and boarding accommodations, and plays a significant role in the educational development of the region.
