The Diocese of Lweru, places a strong emphasis on education as a cornerstone of community development and spiritual growth. Through its network of schools and educational programs, the diocese seeks to provide quality education to children and young adults, empowering them with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute positively to society. The diocese's efforts in education are complemented by partnerships with various organizations and churches, both locally and internationally, fostering a collaborative approach to enhancing educational opportunities and improving the overall well-being of the communities it serves.
Katoke Lweru Secondary School was co-founded by Prof. Alan Watson and Rev Canon Samuel Habimana. They met at Katoke Teachers’ Training College (TTC), and felt that having a Secondary school in the place would easily supply the TTC with the needed students. Also they felt that the students at the TTC would have a school close to them for practical experiences.
Mr. Osia Mwampashe the Deputy Headmaster feels so proud that there is a very close and positive relationship between the School and the Diocese of Lweru. He himself feels proud belonging to a school under the umbrella of the Church where both staff and students are molded to be God fearers.
The school, with generous support from Katoke Trust Australia, offers sponsorships for disadvantaged students, with academic ability, but not the funds to provide for secondary education. This can include children from our clergy families.
A current challenge is no dedicated sports field and facilities. They have to borrow or even rent the use of the play-ground of the neighboring schools. A lack of a school bus is a significant challenge for the school.
