  "Life in the northwestern part of Tanzania presents numerous challenges for its residents. The region, predominantly rural, faces persistent issues of poverty and limited access to essential services. Many communities struggle with inadequate healthcare facilities, resulting in high maternal and infant mortality rates and the prevalence of diseases such as malaria and HIV/AIDS. Education opportunities are often limited, with schools lacking sufficient resources, trained teachers, and basic infrastructure. Agriculture, the mainstay of the local economy, is frequently hampered by unpredictable weather patterns, poor soil fertility, and lack of modern farming techniques, leading to food insecurity and low income levels. Despite these challenges, the resilient spirit of the people and the ongoing efforts of local and international organizations continue to foster hope and gradual improvement in the region.  

Bishop Godfrey writes  

"This is the world of Lweru. This is our world. These are the challenges we face as a Diocese. Our region currently has the lowest household income for the whole of Tanzania. Poverty alleviation is a primary focus for our Diocesan team as for the majority it is not so much about improving their quality of life as it an existential challenge."
