The Development Department has many responsibilities. Kelvin Lazaro, the Diocesan Development Officer has been working on malaria prevention programs, vanilla plantations in partnership with Katoke Trust Australia.
Trinity Church Wall Street, New York (USA) philanthropic trust is partnering with Lweru Diocese in mission real estate development with a project for long term income generating opportunities. These ten retail units, with more to come, will provide rental income to the Diocese.
In addition, a communal hall is being built, that will serve Diocesan needs, but also potential for rental income. The Diocese through the Development Department has also purchased land on Goziba Island for further income generation projects.
The Development department also participates in establishing small enterprise loan schemes for individuals and groups, like Mothers’ Union.
In many Dioceses in Tanzania and Kenya, TEARFUND-UK has supported a program of educating and sensitizing Churches and their communities to be creative in development by using locally available resources.
Ms. Julieth C. Kanyankole, is the CCMP Coordinator, for the Diocese of Lweru
since 19th Nov, 2019. CCMP is now making giant steps in villages of Miranda, Kitoko, Buhaya, Omubweya and Kemondo. The success of CCMP in villages is commendable. People like Cyprian Kipimo of Omubweya village, Mrs. Joharis of Buhaya Church, Ms. Edda Isdory of Mubunda Village to mention a few are living examples of the success of the program.
