The Diocese of Lweru was established on Sunday August 202, 2006 out of the Diocese of Kagera. The Rt. Rev. Jackton Yeremiah Lugumila being the founding Bishop. On his retirement 11 years later, on Sunday 5th February, 2017, the Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbelwa succeeded him. When the Diocese began, there were 12 Parishes.
By 2024, that number has increased to 48, with a total number of 120 churches, 71 pastors, 132 Evangelists and more than 19,000 congregation members.
We are thrilled to announce the opening of the Muleba Ladies College Vocational Training Centre, a new initiative dedicated to empowering young women in our community. This center, equipped with 10 sewing machines, will provide vital skills training for 20 young women who have faced significant challenges in their lives. Many of these girls were unable to continue their education due to early pregnancies or difficult family situations. Through this program, they will gain valuable skills in sewing, enabling them to earn a living and build a brighter future. The Center includes a sewing machine room, dining hall, dormitories and an office.
However, the need is great. To support all the young women seeking this opportunity, we require additional resources, including more sewing machines. Your support and contributions can help us expand this program and reach even more young women in need.
